Self Introduction

 Hello All,

My name is Linsey McCollum and I am a senior English Education major! I am really excited to be in Myth and Folklore this semester because I think it will introduce me to new readings/ activities to do with my future classroom!

I always feel so awkward making introductions because I hate talking about myself, so, I guess I will start with the important facts first! I live in Norman with my boyfriend, Dalton, and our four cats Tito Pepperoni, Callie, and Sunshine. I was never really a cat person (in fact, I am allergic), however with a little bit of Benadryl, I am totally a cat person!

One of my main hobbies is watching TV, my favorite (go to) shows are Gilmore Girls and Greys Anatomy. I've also started watching The Walking Dead recently and I can't believe I did not watch it sooner! I'm also a huge theatre nerd and I am hoping that I can get my certification to teach drama as well as English! I am a huge Musial fan (though I cannot sing or dance), some of my favorite musicals are Rent, Big Fish, Little Shop of Horrors, and Dogfight! Though I only listed 4 there are hundreds of musicals that I love!

Another hobby of mine lately has been playing Stardew Valley! This has become one of my main pass times during quarantine and I would love to meet other people who play!

This is a photo of my favorite baby, Tito!
(Yes we choose favorites, they're cats it is allowed!)

  1. Hi Linsey,

Tito is absolutely adorable! I just want to snuggle with him :)

I saw that one of your favorite musicals is Little Shop of Horrors, which is also one of my favorites! My brother actually used to work in a local theater in Dallas and I got to do sound for that musical! It will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I am looking forward to reading more of your posts this fall!

  2. Hi Linsey!

Your cat is so cute! I am not really a cat person, but I do have a dog named Callie! So I love the name of your cat! I never got in to The Walking Dead, but my boyfriend did and loved it. Good luck on your senior year!!

  3. Hello, my name is Rachel. I completely agree about making self-introductions. I always find it hard because I don’t want to come off as a stuck-up person who boasts about myself. As a proud cat owner, I think your cats’ names are all adorable, and I think Tito is precious. My little orange tabby cat, Oliver, looks similar to Tito. The only difference is Tito’s large and pointer ears, which makes him look even more cute.

Yes! I love the Gilmore Girls. It became one of my favorite shows that I shared with my mother. We spent hours glued to the screen. I have to ask who did you like more Luke or Christopher? And, Jess or Logan? No hard feeling for any of the options, I’m just curious.

I love musicals too! I love the Music Man, Phantom of the Opera, La La Land, Hadestown, Anastasia (Broadway), Beetlejuice, Hamilton, Waitress, and so many more.

  4. Hi Lindsey, I love the names you chose for your cats! I have always wanted pets but the place I'm renting doesn't allow them, so I've had to settle for playing with my friends' pets any chance I get. Before school started I would have loved to start some new shows! I always prefer shows that have multiple seasons, I get way to attached to shows to have them end it just 1 or 2 seasons. I just finished West Wing, it took me a couple months but I would highly recommend!

  6. Hi Linsey!

Your cat is so cute! Our family actually had a cat when I was younger, but she unfortunately passed away from old age. Since you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy (or other medical shows), I would have to recommend The Good Doctor; I started it during quarantine and quickly caught up within a couple of weeks.

I've been a fan of a couple musicals too! I actually did Fiddler on the Roof and Beauty and the Beast in middle school, but I've also seen Hamilton, and even watched the Book of Mormon with my brothers when they were in Oklahoma City.

  7. Hello Lindsey! Tito is adorable! I am not really a cat person but maybe its cause I never really owned one. I also do not like introductions so you're not alone! I am also a theater fan although I haven't watched very many some of my favorites are probably very common like the phantom of the opera. I hope you are doing well and wish you the best in all your future goals!

  8. It is so nice to get to meet you AGAIN, Linsey... and second introductions are always the best because this way I am connecting with a person rather than just with a name at the start of a semester. And of course you know I am all for English education (yay!), and I had forgotten that you were doing drama as well. Maybe you will try writing some dramatic scripts for this class. I just got an INCREDIBLY cool book that I am so excited to read: Plays from Folktales of Africa and Asia: One-Act, Royalty-Free Dramatizations for Young People from Stories and Legends of Africa and Asia by Barbara Winther... she has written a lot of books like this (Barbara Winther at ABE link)... and I was thinking I would like to learn how to write scripts like this, so I am going to see what I can learn from reading her books! If you have some drama book recommendations, let me know. It's not something I've ever tried before in my writing, but since I love writing dialogue in stories, I'm thinking it might be fun, since dialogue is even more important in plays than in stories. Maybe I can write some microdrama kind of like microfiction! :-)

  9. Hi, Linsey! How is it going friend?
So nice to read your introduction! And I love Tito! (it is almost like I helped to name him ;D ) I also really like StarDew valley, it is such a good pasttime to just "veg" out on the couch and relax with. I am also an English Ed major... but I guess you knew that... maybe that is why we are firends. Anyways, I know we are not in the same class but I look forward to reading your writing this semester because I know you will allow me to practice commenting on your writing as if you are a student in a class of mine!

  10. Hey Linsey!

So, we meet again! I love your beautiful cat, and I love that you pick favorites. I want a cat so badly, but I'm worried I don't have enough time for one! Maybe I can visit yours and have a kitty playdate or something lol.
I'm super excited to read all of your great stories this semester. We're working with new material, but I know you'll come up with something unique and charming. I'll see you around! Best of luck!

P.S : Rent is one of my faves. Let's have a movie night!!

    1. (sorry I deleted my comment because I was talking about something in Greys Anatomy and I realized that it could be a spoiler for you or anyone who hasn't watched that part yet lol)
Anyway, haha, I think it's cool that you didn't used to be a cat person but now you are. I was the exact same. I had a bad experience with cats when I was younger. But then, my boyfriend had a cat and she was so loving and chill compared to his dog he has now. (his dog is super hyper and crazy). I'm more of a chill and relax type of person so I guess that's why I like cats more now.

  12. Hi Linsey! I think using this class as inspiration for your future classroom is such a great idea! There are so many unique assignments, readings, and possibilities within this course I'm sure you've found mamy ideas. I have 1 cat that lives with my mom in Edmond. I used to be the only human that she liked and would let hold her. But I think with her old age she's becoming nicer haha! And who doesn't have their favorite pet? Of course we love all them but there's always one that pulls your heart strings a little more.

  13. Hi Linsey! I love the idea of using resources you acquire in this class and implementing them in your future classroom! I also adore your cat. I have a chonker of my own named Gladys and I feel like our cats could be friends! Also, I have been watching The Walking Dead from the very beginning (loyal fan all the way) so I hope you enjoy it! I will warn you, the later seasons are a bit repetitive, but you get through them. I hope your semester is going well!

  14. Hi Linsey!
I think it's very cool that you want to be a teacher!
I know drama teachers in particular need a lot of passion to succeed in their career field and you definitely seem to have it!
It's nice that you found a game to help keep you occupied during quarantine, I know I've definitely done the same with a few games in my library!

  15. Hi Linsey,

Your cat is so cute. I also have an orange tabby cat, but he has more yellowish eyes. He is also a little chubby. I agree that you can choose favorite for cats. One of my cats is a literal devil, and the other is so sweet. How can you not pick favorites in that case. I am impressed that you still have cats despite being allergic. You are a true cat person.

  16. Hi Linsey,

I love how one of the reasons that you chose to take this class was to figure out some of the structure as well as content that you can make for your future class! Other than the community and story-reading aspects of this class, I love how someone can use this to apply to their future careers. Other than that, I very much appreciate the inclusion of Tito in your introduction. I'm not a cat-person, but Tito is absolutely adorable! I look forward to reading more from you in the future.

  17. Hi Linsey,
I think it is really cool you want to be a teacher! In fact both of my parents are high school teachers. I too am allegoric to cats, so I am more of a dog person, but yours look cute. I hope this class can maybe teach you a few things about writing! Hope your semester has gone by smoothly!

  18. Hi Lindsey! I saw a picture of Tito and thought that it was a picture of my own cat! Tito looks just like my kitten, Marty. Tito is absolutely gorgeous though, I just had to comment about him first! Anyways, it's pretty awesome you know what you want to do and have a detailed plan to accomplish it. Not everyone is as set up as you are, but it's a very good thing to have a plan for your future. It was nice to meet you and good luck in your future endeavors!
